After updating the xcom.glb file for XCOM for Windows and saving it with Notepad, the xcomd service did not start and failed with an Error Code 473.
By default the encoding of the xcom.glb file is UTF-8, but when edited with Notepad and saved, Notepad alters the encoding and saves it as UTF8 BOM. XCOM is unable to handle that type of file, and that is why the xcomd service won't start.
