Why am I receiving S314 abend when copying VTS volumes using ARCHIVE TAPE COPY?
Resolution
You may be getting the S314 abend because you are defining your VTS tapes larger than your physical tapes. When doing ARCHIVE / BACKUP using a VTS and you plan to copy the ARCHVOLS to physical tape, the VTS should emulate the same device as your physical tapes. Otherwise, use sysparm CARTPRCT to decrease / increase the tape usage on the VTS. When the VTS is larger than the physical device the ARCHIVE TAPE COPY Utility will abend because the VTS ARCHVOL will not fit on 1 physical tape. Disk has always required the PRIMARY and SECONDARY ARCHVOLS be identical to each other. This will also cause tape utilization problems since Disk forces EOF on the larger device when the smaller device hits EOF.
