Issue/Introduction

This article addresses an error that occurs after enabling Workflow in Identity Manager. The application server logs report a failure in the UniqueIDUpdatePvtBean, indicating that the system cannot find a required row in the WP_INI table, resulting in a NullPointerException.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

During the initial startup or activation of Identity Manager, the Workflow (Workpoint) database was not correctly populated, leaving the WP_INI table without the necessary SECTION_NAME='Database' and KEY_NAME='ID' entries.

Resolution

The following steps will delete all existing data, including active jobs and pending approvals/rejections. Ensure you have a full backup if data preservation is required.

  1. Stop the CA Identity Manager (IdM) service (JBoss/WildFly, WebSphere, or WebLogic).
  2. Create a backup of the current IdM database (Oracle or SQL Server).
  3. Drop all existing Workpoint tables by running the following scripts:
    • wp_dropfk.sql
    • wp_droppk.sql
    • wp_drop_tables.sql
    • Note: These scripts are located in: [IAM Suite]\Identity Manager\tools\Workpoint\database\.
    • Note: The DBA must execute these scripts using an account with DROP permissions.
  4. Start the IdM service. The system will automatically recreate and correctly populate the Workpoint (WP) tables.

Additional Information

Note: If you are using Workflow already, and you have data and jobs pending of approval/rejection, these steps will delete all data and jobs pending approval/rejection.
