Issue/Introduction

When importing user data from a CSV file into Identity Manager using the Bulk Loader, non-standard characters, such as French accents or special symbols, are not processed or displayed correctly.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5 & 15

Cause

The Bulk Loader default configuration interprets CSV files using ANSI encoding, which does not support extended character sets. UTF-8 encoding is required to correctly parse special characters.

Resolution

  1. Open the source CSV file in a text editor (e.g., Notepad++ or Microsoft Excel).
  2. Save or convert the file using UTF-8 encoding.
  3. If using Microsoft Excel, select Save As and choose CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (*.csv) from the file type options.
  4. Attempt the import again using the Bulk Loader to verify the characters are now processed correctly.
