Issue/Introduction

Which attributes are used when the temporary shipment staging dataset is dynamically allocated?

Resolution

The attributes of the original dataset are copied, except for the SPACE and DSNTYPE attributes which are actioned as follows:

  • For the SPACE parameter, Endevor uses the value entered in the field 'Approx Host Members/Cyl' from the DSN mapping rule panel and the number of members being copied, to determine the values to use.

  • For DSNTYPE, Endevor uses the DSNTYPE parameter to define the library type of the staging dataset, as PDS or PDSE.

It must also be noted that there are considerations in regard to the staging dataset and the dsntype when performed locally or to a remote destination, as follows:

  • If the shipment is being performed locally, we allocate the staging dataset with the same dsntype as the target dataset.

  • If the shipment is being done to a remote destination, the staging library is allocated with the dsntype of the origin dataset.
