Issue/Introduction

When picking up a new suite of products and wanting to add them to the ACT, how to determine what to specify for application Type in the TPX ACT (Application Characteristics Table)?

Resolution

In general, unless otherwise specified in the online documentation Customizing for Certain Applications), all applications should be able to tolerate GRP.

From online help:

Type (SHR,GRP,UNQ,TPX) - Describes the application's virtual terminal requirements:

  • SHR - for applications that support parallel virtual terminal sessions. Examples: TSO, ROSCOE, Remote Console/MVS
  • GRP - for applications that can share a virtual terminal with other applications. Examples: IMS, CICS.
  • UNQ - for applications that require a separate virtual terminal for each user. Example: INFO/NET.
  • TPX - for TPX internal applications.
