Issue/Introduction

When we deploy any software package from Enterprise Manager using copy and paste, the job container gets created, however under job container no targets.

On the Enterprise Manager copy a package and paste it to all computers or any computer group. The job container gets created and remains in building state.

Ex: In the screenshot below 'All Computers' and 'Pol' containers are created but never activated.

Resolution

When a Deploy Job is initiated using the wizard, one of the wizard pages gives the option to select the domains to which the Deploy order needs to be sent. Therefore, when a container is created through the wizard the distribution container is linked to carrier containers (table: usd_cc) which are nothing but the domains to which distribution needs to be done.

But when a package is pasted to a group on the Enterprise Manager, Domains to which the "Job container" order needs to be sent cannot be specified at that stage. So the distribution container is not linked to any domains (carrier containers), which is why the container stays in the building state.

To get the distribution initiated, the following needs to be done; Copy the Distribution container (the one that is in the building state) and paste it onto individual Domains or create a group of Domains and paste the Distribution container onto the group. The Distribution Container will get processed and subsequently the package(s) will be distributed to the desired Domains.
