Issue/Introduction

On the Gantt in PPM, I'm not seeing my task dates update based on Dependency relationships.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a dependency task relationship with 2 tasks of Finish to Finish
2. Set the Finish Date of the successor task to be later then the predecessor task's Finish Date

Expected Results: Tasks are updated to have the same Finish Date
Actual Results: Task Finish Dates are mismatched

Environment

Applies to all supported PAS environments for specified releases.

Resolution

There are a couple of known reasons tasks do not update based on dependency relationships:

1. The Autoschedule job must be run against the project to update task dates based on dependency relationship.

To do this for one project:

  • Go to the Tasks tab for the project
  • From the Tasks tab drop down, select 'Gantt'
  • Click on the Autoschedule icon and select the appropriate autoscheduling option based on how the project is desired to be scheduled

2.  For the above example, the task Finish dates not updating is by design. See below for expected behavior based on dependency type.

  • Finish to Finish means that the successor task can't finish before the predecessor task finishes. The successor task can have a later finish date then the predecessor task, but the predecessor task cannot have a finish date later then the finish date of the successor task.
  • Start to Start means that the successor task can't start before the predecessor task starts. The successor task can have a later start date then the predecessor task, but the predecessor task cannot have a start date later then the finish start of the successor task.
  • Start to Finish means that the successor task cannot finish before the predecessor task starts.
  • Finish to Start means that the successor task cannot start before the predecessor task finishes.
