Issue/Introduction

Datacom/DB does not provide the ability to upgrade multiple releases at once, so you must upgrade to each release progressively.

Being so, when upgrading from 11.0 to 15.1, you have to upgrade from version 11.0 to 12.0 first, then from version 12.0 to 14.0 and finally to version 15.1.

Environment

Release:  11.0 12.0 14.0 15.0 15.1
Component:  Datacom/DB

Resolution

Before upgrading from Datacom/DB version 11.0 to 12.0:

  • Insure that  Datacom/DB 11.0 is at least at SP4
  • Review the 12.0 Installation guide for requirements and steps.
  • Download the 12.0 README information in RI08416 - Title: * README: STATUS OF SP00 Z/OS - CA DATACOM/DB/DD/DQ/SQL R12 and carefully read the instructions there contained
  • Insure Datadictionary 11.0 integrity and set up fallback procedures as outlined in RI36401 - Title: * IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON DATACOM 11.0 TO 12.0 UPGRADES.
  • After having applied all the 11.0 and 12.0 solutions outlined in RI08416 and RI36401, run the 11.0 DDSDCLM utility in order to check Datadictionary 11.0 integrity before upgrade and correct the errors (if any).
  • Review published 12.0 hipers and other PTFs for any additional maintenance requirements based on your product usage. Follow the installation instructions found in the Datacom/DB 12.0 installation manual. After having successfully upgraded to 12.0, confirm that all is working as expected.

When you are ready to upgrade to Datacom/DB 14.0 from 12.0:

  • Review the 14.0 Installation guide for requirements and steps.
  • Download the 14.0 README information in RI37761 - Title: *README: STATUS OF CA DATACOM/DB/DD/DQ/SQL VERSION 14.0 Z/OS and carefully read the instructions there contained.
  • After having applied all the 12.0 and 14.0 solutions outlined in RI37761, run the 12.0 DDSDCLM utility in order to check Datadictionary 12.0 integrity before upgrade and correct the errors (if any).
  • Review published 14.0 hipers and other PTFs for any additional maintenance requirements based on your product usage.

When DDSCDLM no longer returns errors, you can start the upgrade process, as outlined on the 14.0 Installation manual.
