Issue/Introduction

Is it possible to get archival to DASD to use an SMS storage group?

 

Resolution

No. At that level the only thing we see are individual Volume Serial numbers.

To direct the ARCHVOLS to specific SMS Storage Pools the High Level Qualifiers used for the ARCHVOLS should be defined in the SMS ACS with the Storage Pool desired.

Instead you code the volumes or a volume pattern in the parmlib member whose name is determined by the POOLDEFS sysparm. You can then use your SMS ACS routines to intercept and assign the appropriate SMS constructs. For example:
IF &VOLUME = 'ML1001' THEN SET &STORCLAS = 'ML1'.
