XCOM Data Transport XCOM Data Transport - z/OS

Issue/Introduction

How do I receive a warning when the MAXTASK, MAXLOC or MAXREM level for an XCOM for z/OS server is close to the limit?

Environment

XCOM Data Transport for Windows

Resolution

You can monitor the queue level with the XCOM Health Checker. With Health Checks you can monitor the MAXTASK, MAXLOC and MAXREM levels on each XCOM for z/OS server. This is done by specifying a THRESHOLD(nnn) for each parameter. The THRESHOLD parameter can be in the range from 1 to 100%, with the default value being set at 80%. The default interval for this Health check is every 30 minutes.

For example, if the total number of concurrent active tasks, MAXTASK is set to 100, and the THRESHOLD parameter for MAXTASK is set at 75%, an exception condition is recognized when there are 75 active tasks, with 25 still available.

The following warning message will be displayed:

XCMH513W The total number of active tasks within the CA XCOM Data Transport region has exceeded 75% of the configured limit as specified on the MAXTASK parameter.

See z/OS Health Checks

You can also monitor the queue with the NSASTAT modify command

F XCOM,NSASTAT

You can see

#LMAX Peak number of locally initiated elements

#RMAX Peak number of remotely initiated elements

as well as other statistics to find the maximum number of locally and remotely initiated transfers.
