Issue/Introduction

During the installation of the Identity Manager Provisioning Server, the process fails with the following error: (error code = -30020; message = "The directory is not empty. (145)"). This indicates that the installer is encountering existing files or file locks within the target directory that prevent a clean installation.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

The installation fails because the target directory contains remnants from a previous installation, or a file within the directory is locked by a system process (such as a security scanner or Anti-virus software). The installer cannot overwrite or remove these files to proceed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps to clean the installation environment:

  1. Stop the Provisioning Server installation wizard.
  2. Navigate to the intended installation directory.
  3. If this is a re-installation, ensure the folder is completely empty. Delete any remaining files or folders if the previous uninstallation did not clean up correctly.
  4. Verify that no other processes have files open in this directory.
  5. If Anti-virus or endpoint protection software is active, temporarily disable it or add an exclusion for the installation directory.
  6. Attempt to run the installation again with administrator privileges.
  7. If the installation completes successfully, remember to re-enable your Anti-virus software.
