Issue/Introduction

VLSUTIL backup contains errors regarding corrupted members.  What is the next course of action?

Resolution

If a VLSUTIL BACKUP contains errors regarding corrupted members, the next course of action is to:

- FORMAT the library again, which will build a new INDEX and SPACE MAP.

- RESTORE from the backup into the newly formatted VLS library.

- Any members not included on the BACKUP will need to be SELECTively RESTORED  from a good backup, using VLSUTIL SELREST command.

Additional Information

To avoid any problems with your VLS libraries, it is highly recommended running a VLSUTIL BACKUP fairly often, to check for corruption on the library and to correct it immediately.
See Implementation Guide for z/OS Version 14.0 Chapter 6 - VLS Utility (VLSUTIL) for more information on that utility.
