What is the iSponsor Distribution Server's role when using Broadcom's Portal product? 

Resolution

In a given enterprise there may be many different products (also known as instruments) that you wish to be able to manage through Portal. To accomplish that, each of those products (instruments) requires that its respective iSponsor be installed and configured.
It may occasionally be necessary to update iSponsors.
The iSponsor Distribution Server is a facility that allows an optional central facility from where the latest iSponsors can be found and distributed.
