Issue/Introduction

When trying to start a session in TPX, why would you get message TPXL0139 SESSION INQUIRE FAILED when the application is actually up and accepting logons outside of TPX

Resolution

The most common reasons a TPXL0139 SESSION INQUIRE FAILED message occurs.

  • VTAM returns bad inquire appl status to TPX.
  • Search time for inquire runs out and appl status not found.

Normally the application where the status is failing is a cross-domain appl.

Set the TPX ACT table field INQUIRE-ON-APPL-STATUS to NO, as a work-around.
