Why can I not connect to a remote machine using Remote Desktop Connection/Terminal Services?

Resolution

First, ensure that RDC is installed on the remote machine, because it is not installed by default. To install it, from the Start menu, choose Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components. Next, ensure that a network firewall, if present, allows traffic on port 3389.
