Resolution

There are NO scenarios where installing Automation Point (AP) remotely is supported. Here is the explanation:

Using the Remote Desktop application embedded in Microsoft Windows (formerly called Terminal Services) is NOT supported for installing or configuring AP. Using this tool will cause errors when running (and possibly installing) the product.

Even when the '/console' switch is used, Remote Desktop does not give the user true access to the server. It gives a virtual slice of the operating system, and this virtual user does not get the permissions and access of a user that is locally logged into the server. These under-the-covers settings will result in limited access or incorrect permissions when running AP, and errors will result.

Because of these factors, we have tested the following remote packages for use with Automation Point:

Real VNC Free Edition 4.1.2

Not recommended for remote viewing of the Automation Point Desktop. If the AP Desktop session windows are active, VNC may take too long to paint the window for the remote (VNC) view to accurately reflect current console activity. AP Viewer is the recommended utility for remotely viewing AP Desktop session windows activity. VNC has been successfully tested with both AP installs and upgrades.

Remote Control 6.0 SP1

Recommended solution for remote administration of Automation Point.
