Issue/Introduction

Description:

For hours, this message was coming out every 30 seconds. We finally recycled VM:Tape to stop the messages. Why did this happen?

Solution:

There was an outstanding REPLY message on VM:Tape that needed to be responded to.

<<< snip >>>
VMTHSC697E HSC server STKACS ACSRQ=MOUNT RC=16 Reason=00000078
VMTHSC698R 'MOUNT G00782 06E3 WRITE'
to STKACS failed; Enter RETRY, CANCEL, or NOARM;; Reply 1

The process can't end until the outstanding reply is satisfied. In this case, the reply would most likely have been CANCEL.

To find out what the outstanding request is, have the Operator User ID enter VMTAPE QUERY REQUESTS.

Due to the outstanding reply, VM:Tape could not cancel the mount at timeout.
If you had responded to the reply, the flood of VMTRES295E messages would have stopped.
