CA Spool TCP/IP connected printers by default will first bind the printer session then do a byte count of the data file. Once that is completed the LPR control file is counted then sent to the printer followed by the byte count of the data and the data. Some time during this process the printer can time out the session causing the printer to go to an EDRAINED status. The file is requeued. The resulting message is:
ESF905 File 999999 on printer pppppppp - Invalid response from server
Release: 12.0 14.0
Component: CSPOOL
The most common reason for this type of error is a wrong printer queue name.
The printer queue name is defined in the NODE parameter TCPPRT.
Other possible causes:
- Network issues
- Firewall preventing the connection
- Other LPD server problems
