Issue/Introduction

During extensive role-binding or organizational load operations in Identity Manager, the Policy Store may accumulate a significant number of smServerCommandOID and smAgentCommandOID objects that do not automatically purge. This article provides instructions to address this accumulation and manage Policy Store performance.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Siteminder 12.8

Cause

The accumulation occurs when the smServerCommandOID and smAgentCommandOID objects generated during high-volume operations are not cleared because the journal flush interval is set too high for the current transaction volume.

Resolution

  1. Launch the smconsole application.
  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  3. Locate the setting Flush Journal entries older than.
  4. Reduce the value (e.g., from the default of 60 minutes to 5 minutes) to increase the frequency of journal entry purges.
  5. Monitor the Policy Store to ensure the object count stabilizes.
