A "Failed to communicate with target 'Monitor'" message appears in the Windows Application Log after the server is rebooted.

Issue/Introduction

Description:

When there are several Audit components installed on the same system I receive the following error message:"Failed to communicate with target 'Monitor' " after the server is rebooted.

Solution:

When eTrust Audit services starts, an internal self-monitoring message is sent to the eTrust Audit Security Monitor designated to take internal messages. If this Security Monitor is installed on the same computer as other services, the Security Monitor may start later than other eTrust Audit services, causing the error message to appear. Because the Security Monitor is an application, not a service, someone must be logged into the server for it to be active.

The services that start before eTrust Audit Security Monitor is started cannot successfully send self-monitoring message to the Security Monitor. You can ignore this error as eTrust Audit will work normally once the services have started. This message just indicates that the self-monitoring messages have not reached the security monitor.
