Issue/Introduction

Description:

The ENF archive data set (file) is associated with the ENF backup/archive process. This process can be automatically controlled by the BACKUP control option, or manually controlled by running the CAS9DB utility with the ARCH control option.

If using the BACKUP control option, the ENF archive data set is defined via the DSNAME control option.
If running CAS9DB with the ARCH control option, the ENF archive data set is defined via the DBARCH DDname.

Solution:

Whether or not the ENF archive data set is allocated depends on how the events are defined to the ENF database. If a recorded event is defined with the 'P'urge option, then event data is to be purged after reaching its expiration date. To determine the options associated with each event, you can either run the CAS9DB utility to LIST the ENF database or you can issue the command: "F ENF,EVENT". The ENF EVENT command will list the current status of all events. If you see the character "P" following *RECORD*, then the event will be purged upon expiration. If purged, it will simply be removed from the database and not backed-up. If all defined recorded events are set to purge, then there will be no allocation of the ENF archive data set.

If it is decided that you do want to archive expired events to a backup file, you will need to change the options on the event(s) by running the CAS9DB utility with the ALTER control option. Detailed information can be found in the CA Common Services Reference Guide.
