Issue/Introduction

Description:

When URL to DSM Web Console is brought up the user is prompted with User Name, Password, Security Authority, and Security Provider.
The latter two are already populated with the name of the domain and "winnt" respectively.
When the user enters Windows credentials, an error occurs stating: "Unable to connect to Web Service({http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HTTP)".
The Event Viewer lists an error like "authentication failed for IUSR account".

Solution:

The root cause for this problem is due to the IUSR password getting corrupted or changed and not being in sync with the IIS Meta database password.

1. Reset the password for the IUSR account on the server and IIS Meta database.
   
   
2. Reset the permissions on the IIS folders for the IUSR account.
   
   
3. Open the IIS Manager and drill down to Web Sites. Right click on 'Default Web Site' and select Properties.
   
   
4. Go to the Directory Security tab and click on Edit for 'Authentication and Access control' option. User id for Anonymous access should be set to IUSR_MACHINENAME
   Ex: IUSER_<Hostname of the box>
   
   
5. Give 'Everyone' group read/execute rights on C:\Inetpub and C:\Program Files\CA such that the permissions propagate down the tree.
   
   
6. Recycle IIS.
