Do I need to install any Microsoft SQL database software on my Automation Point machine if the notification manager database is on a remote machine?

I am installing Automation Point and my Notification Manager database is going to be on a different server than Automation Point. Do I need to install database software (SQL Server Client for example) in order for Automation Point to communicate with the Notification Manager database machine?
