Resolution

If the Project has both a Department and Location OBS Unit selected, then this message indicates that the investment financial properties for the Department and Location are not 'linked'. Although you may have a Department and a Location defined on the investment financial properties page, they may not be 'linked'. To ensure that the Department and Location units are properly linked there are two different methods for linking them. You can chose either method as your preference for updating the data.

Method #1:

  1. Main Application, Departments List view

  2. Select the appropriate Department Unit for editing

  3. Click 'Locations' link in the Department, top navigation menu

  4. Click 'Add' button

  5. Select the appropriate Location Unit to add to the Department Unit

Method #2:

  1. Administration, Financial : Setup, Locations

  2. Select the appropriate Location Unit for editing

  3. Click 'Departments' link in the Location, top navigation menu

  4. Click 'Add' button

  5. Select the appropriate Department Unit to add to the Location Unit

After linking the Department and Location Units, execute the 'Post Transactions to Financial' job'.
Check the Invalid Transactions page again.  The rejected transactions should be removed from this view as they should process successfully. If the transaction is rejected for another reason, make the appropriate adjustment and repeat the job to process the transactions.

If the same error message 'Invalid Entity Location' persists, check the following configuration.

  • Navigate to the Administration, WIP Settings page.  Check to see from where the Department and Location OBS Units should be retrieved.
  • If the WIP Settings page is configured to use 'Client' Entity, Department and Location, then check the Project, Financial properties page.  Ensure there is a 'Client' (Customer) assigned to the Project.  Then navigate to the Client/Customer Financial properties page and ensure there is both a Department OBS Unit and a Location OBS Unit defined.
  • If the WIP Settings page is configured to use 'Project' Entity, Department and Location, then check the Project, Financial properties page.  Ensure there is both a Department OBS Unit and a Location OBS Unit defined.
  • If the WIP Settings page is configured to use 'Employee' Entity, Department and Location, then check the Resource, Financial properties page.  Ensure there is both a Department OBS Unit and a Location OBS Unit defined.
