Issue/Introduction

Describes the process to move the MDB tables from one Microsoft SQL Server instance to another and point Service Desk at the new location.

Environment

Release:
Component: ARGIS

Resolution

The DBA will need to move the MDB from the originating SQL Server instance to the new SQL Server instance using Database utilities like Backup and Restore.
After the Restore is complete, it is necessary to run the following command to fix the database login:
Exec sp_change_users_login 'AUTO_FIX', 'ServiceDesk'

Once the data has been moved and the permissions correctly set, launch pdm_configure on the Service Desk Server. On the Database Config screen, change the Node to point at the new instance. Make sure "Load default data" is unchecked and continue. Once pdm_configure has completed, the Service Desk will be restarted and will utilize the newly created MDB instance.

If any problems connect to this new instance of the MDB happens, the pdm_configure will fail and can be canceled out without any changes being made. Service Desk can be restarted and will continue to use the original MDB tables while the cause of the connection failure is reviewed and corrected.
