Issue/Introduction

Description

CAIRIM allows you to install CA products dynamically - and as a result, you do not need to install SVCs, LPA modules, subsystem definitions, SMF exits, or make other permanent changes to your operating system setup (refer to the CA Common Services Administrator Guide for more information). A number of CA mainframe products utilize this service of CAIRIM to handle the initialization of their products. If a problem occurs during this product initialization process, an INIT ERROR will be generated. By default, these errors are not highlighted. Through the use of a control option, you can force these initialization errors to generate a highlighted, non-scrollable message on the system console. This document will explain how.

Solution

The HIGHLIGHT control option can be defined within the CARIMPRM parameter file. This parameter file is referred to in the CAS9 procedure via the //PARMLIB DD statement. The HIGHLIGHT control option can be specified anywhere within the file to either turn on or turn off the highlighting of any INIT ERROR messages that might occur.

syntax: HIGHLIGHT=(ON|OFF)
default: OFF

If you want to highlight all initialization errors that may occur, specify HIGHLIGHT=ON as the first statement starting in column 1. You can specify HIGHLIGHT=OFF further down within the file if you want to disable the highlight feature.

In the following screen shot, you can see the placement of HIGHTLIGHT=ON. Remember that HIGHLIGHT=OFF is the default. In most instances if you want to highlight product initialization errors, you will only specify HIGHLIGHT=ON as the first line in the CARIMPRM file. This example will show the control option defined both in the beginning and in the middle of the file to demonstrate two products experiencing an INIT ERROR. Only the CA-Datacom error is being highlighted because the initialization comes after HIGHLIGHT=ON and before HIGHLIGHT=OFF.
