smobjimport fails with "Fatal Error: Unable to fetch object" in a new installation of SiteMinder R12.

Issue/Introduction

Description:

I am trying to configure SiteMinder R12. I followed the instructions in the Policy Server Installation Guide r12 SP1 (Chapter 6), but I get the following error when trying to execute the command to import smpolicy.smdif

c:\Programs\CA\siteminder\db\smdif> smobjimport -ismpolicy.smdif -dsiteminder -wPassword -v

Fatal Error: Unable to fetch object.

I'm able to change the password using the smreg utility, but the smobjimport fails.

Solution:

This error is because the utility smobjimport is not able to communicate with the Key Store. If you are using the same Database / LDAP Server which has the Policy Store as key store as well, please make sure the option "Use Policy Store database" is selected in SiteMinder Management Console (smconsole) under the Data Tab when the Key Store has been selected as Database

Or configure and test the connection to the Key Store. Note that the Policy Store must be initialized before execute the smobjimport command.
