Advantages and disadvantages.

Solution:

Default of DDCONS is DDCONS(YES). This means to allow SMF EXCP segment consolidation to occur.

DDCONS(NO) completely inactivates the consolidation process and allows the long running tasks to shut down quickly.

MICS can handle either, YES or NO. There are advantages and disadvantages:

DDCONS(YES) default

Advantage: saves space in SMF records by consolidating segments with same DDNAME and device address allows SMF excp segment consolidation to occur

Disadvantage: time consuming, at step and job end when 1000's of dynamic allocations and unallocations have occurred

DDCONS(NO)

Advantage: completely inactivates the consolidation process and allows long running tasks to shut down quickly

Disadvantage: SMF type 30 interval, step, and job end records can become significantly larger, because of increased number of excp segments recorded
