Issue/Introduction

Description:

On occasions the following message is displayed on the user's TPX sign-on screen and there may not be any entry in the TPX LOG for this condition.

TPX IS CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING SIGNONS

Solution:

This message is symptomatic of TPX Coupling Facility disconnect in a multi-partitioned environment using Generic Resource.

Check to confirm that the TPX Coupling Facility has not been disabled or ended due to an error. This has been observed on certain micro code updates, when the system coupling facility takes a hit. If you were already logged in to TPX there is no impact and you continue to work, but if you tried to login to TPX you received the message

TPX IS CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING LOGONS

No errors or messages are recorded in the TPX log.

TPX by design does not support the use of system managed duplexing for the TPX CF structure. It will support SYSTEM rebuilds of the structure.
TPX supports "system rebuilds" not 'applications rebuilds' - hence if the CF structure is not up, TPX has nothing to connect to.

TPX is enhanced to support rebuilding and altering of the CA-TPX Coupling Facility (CF) structure by the operating system. End users will see messages indicating that signon or signoff is not possible during recovery. If TPX attempts to connect to a CF structure during rebuild, it issues a message to the console and waits 30 seconds before attempting to connect again. However, if this condition persists, the TPX CF structure may require a rebuild to resolve the error.
