There could be a possible time issue with Service Desk requests and Workflow tasks related to the change in Daylight Saving Time. This document will disucss the solution provided in a later release of Java. This applies only to Service Desk version r11.2.

CA Service Desk version r11.2 installs the Sun JRE version 1.4.2_06. With the move in date in the US of the DST change, there could be issues involving request start and end times being an hour off.

To resolve the issue, the latest 1.4.2 JRE will need to be downloaded and installed on the Service Desk server, as well as USD and CA Workflow being modified to use the later JRE.

The JRE can be downloaded from:

Approximately in the middle of the page is a "Download J2SE JRE" link. Follow this, and fill in the requested information.
You will be sent an email from Sun Microsystems with a link then to download the JRE.
Select your platform, agree to the License Agreement and continue.
Download the Windows Offline Installation.

Once you have this installed, you will need to update 3 items. Shut down Service Desk and perform the following:

  1. $NX_ROOT\nx.env - change @NX_JRE_INSTALL_DIR= to reflect the new install directory such as: @NX_JRE_INSTALL_DIR=C:/Program Files/Java/j2re1.4.2_19.

  2. For Windows only, update the shortcut to the Workflow IDE to point to the ide.bat rather than the ide.exe. The .bat file is located in the same directory structure as the .exe. Your shortcut should have a target after this change of "C:\Program Files\CA\Service Desk\site\Workflow\Client\ide.bat".

  3. Open the $NX_ROOT\site\Workflow\Client\ide.bat or file in a text editor and modify the APPCPATH line (near the end) to also point to the correct path for the updated JRE installation. Please take note here that this is pointing to the java process under the \bin directory.
Once this is done, restart Service Desk.
