Issue/Introduction

The KPI by Project Type report data does not match what is showing in the project for Resource Allocations and/or Resource Actuals.

Environment

This applies to CA PPM 14.3 and higher

Cause

This is due to the time slices not being set up to cover the periods the data is being generated for. For this report, Advanced Reporting pulls data from PPM based on the following time slices: MONTHLYRESOURCEALLOCCURVE and MONTHLYRESOURCEACTCURVE.

Resolution

Alter the 'From Date' of the below slices to match the earliest start date of the projects that data is desired for as well as increase the number of periods for the slices to cover the start/finish dates of the report will allow the data to match. Note: Increasing the number of periods for these slices can cause performance issues. Evaluate if data is needed as far back as the From Date to help keep the Number of Periods for the slices at a minimum.

To adjust slices, follow the below steps.

Notes:

  • It's recommended to update all the monthly Time Slices so they have the same From/To Dates.
  • It's recommended to make this change outside normal business hours and to update one slice at a time to help keep performance impact at a minimum.
  • The first time the Time Slicing job is run after the slice update, the job may take longer to complete.

1. Pause all scheduled Time Slicing jobs:

  • Go to Home->Jobs and from the Jobs tab select 'Scheduled Jobs'.
  • Check any scheduled Time Slicing jobs and click 'Pause'.

2. Update the Time Slice:

  • Go to Administration->Data Administration->Time Slices.
  • Click on Slice ID 6 (MONTHLYRESOURCEALLOCCURVE).
  • Update the 'From Date' to reflect the earliest start date for projects in the report and also increase the 'Number of Periods' as needed to cover through the latest Finish date of the projects.

4. Resume the Time Slicing job.

  • Go to Home->Jobs and from the Jobs tab select 'Scheduled Jobs'.
  • Check any paused Time Slicing jobs and click 'Resume'.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 for Slice ID 4 (MONTHLYRESOURCEACTCURVE).  Number of Periods should not have to go out too far in the future since time is only typically entered through a few weeks after the current date.

6. Once the time slicing job completes, run the Load Data Warehouse job in incremental mode.
