ASM2- STORAGE MANAGEMENT ASM2 Backup and Restore RSVP

Issue/Introduction

What support does ASM2 have for HFS and z/FS files?

Resolution

ASM2 offers limited support for the special z/OS file types HFS and z/FS.

HFS (Hierarchical File System)
ASM2 Backup and Restore does not support HFS files within the Incremental or Explicit archive/backup processes. To backup HFS files you must utilize the Full Volume Utility ($DEFRAG). Members within the HFS structure cannot be reloaded separately.

z/FS (z/OS File System) -Replacing HFS
z/FS files are basically Linear VSAM files. Although ASM2 will process standard Linear VSAM files using IDCAMS as the data mover, it is recommended to exclude z/FS files from your Incremental and Explicit archive/backup processes. It is recommended to use the Full Volume Utility ($DEFRAG) to backup z/FS files.
