Issue/Introduction

USS$003E BPX1CON (connect) failed, rc 00000468 rs 120D0253

GSV3602E Data collection for Communications Storage Manager has failed

Cause

The SYSVIEW CSMSTAT command provides information on the status of the Communications Storage Manager.

This requires that the VTAM start option, SNAMGMT, be set to YES. This option will attach the ISTMGCEH subtask to open the Network Management Interface.

If the VTAM option SNAMGMT is turned off, you may receive USS error messages as shown above. These messages may be misleading as to the root cause of the problem.

Resolution

Verify the SNAMGMT option is on by issuing:

 XMVS D NET,VTAMOPTS,OPTION=SNAMGMT.

If SNAMGMT = NO, then turn the option on by issuing:

XMVS F NET,VTAMOPTS,SNAMGMT=YES.

Be aware of other security considerations for the CSMSTAT command:

Superuser authority or access to the following SAF resource is required:

 Class Profile/Entity Name Access
 -------- --------------------------- ------
 SERVAUTH IST.NETMGMT.sysname.SNAMGMT READ

'sysname' represents the MVS system name

Superuser authority is either a UID of 0 or READ access to the BPX.SUPERUSER entity of the FACILITY class. If the command is displaying cross system data, the SYSVIEW main address space must has access to these security resources for each sysname. Otherwise, the message

 'ZUSSR GET_CSM_STATS failed'

in the field XSMsg could indicate that authority was not granted.
