Description:
The allow_exceed option only applies to the CI's listed under the "Related Configuration Items" tab in the CI detail form; that tab may exist in r12.1 but does not exist in r12.5 CA SDM.
The allow_exceed option does not apply to the CI's listed under the "CMDB Relationships" tab; that tab only exists when CMDB is installed.
Solution:
In r12.5 CA SDM, when the allow_exceed option is not installed, no error message is displayed when the number of parents for a CI exceeds the value of the Quantity field in the Inventory tab for a CI. This is by design.
However, in r12.1, when the allow_exceed option is not installed, the number of parents for a Configuration Item is restricted. The CI detail for each CI includes an "Inventory" tab which contains a field named "Quantity". The value specified in the Quantity field indicates the maximum number of parents allowed for the CI (see Figure 1). The parents for a CI are listed in the "Related Configuration Items" tab of the CI detail form (see Figure 2). When the allow_exceed option is not installed (see Figure 3), the maximum is enforced (see Figure 4). When the allow_exceed option is installed, the restriction is ignored.
When CMDB is installed, the "CMDB Relationships" tab is a new tab that is included in the Configuration Item Details form. The allow_exceed option does not operate against any of the entries listed under this tab; thus, that option does not restrict the number of is_a_parent_of or is_a_child_of relationships of a CI (see Figure 5).
For r12.5 CA SDM, CMDB is installed automatically when installing Service Desk Manager. For r12.1, CMDB must be installed separately.
