Solution:

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to create back up of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur. For more information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, please review the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on support.microsoft.com.

  1. If you are running Windows XP or Windows 2003, then you should ensure that Microsoft patch KB925336 is installed before you install the CA Business Intelligence components.

As documented at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925336, Microsoft does not provide an official fix for the Windows XP platform.

Therefore, you need to perform the following on Windows XP based machines:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

    2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\CodeIdentifiers

Note: Before you modify this key, we recommend that you back up this key. To do this, right-click CodeIdentifiers, and then click Export. Save the file to a location where you can find it on the computer.

    3. Change the PolicyScope registry value. To do this, double-click PolicyScope, and then change the setting from 0 to 1.

    4. Close Registry Editor.

    5. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK to open a Command Prompt window.

    6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

      net stop msiserver

This command stops the Windows Installer service if the service is currently running in the background.

    7. Continue with Step #2 in this technical document.

    8. After you install is complete, repeat steps a and b. Then, change the PolicyScope registry value back to 0.

  2. Run "setup.exe" from the CA Service Desk Manager r12.5 CA SDM DVD #2

  3. Select "English" as the language

  4. Click on "3. Product Installs"

  5. Select "CA Business Intelligence Installation"

  6. Click on "Next" in the Introduction screen

  7. Read the full License Agreement. You must select "I accept the terms of the License Agreement" to continue.

  8. Click on "Next"

At this point, if Microsoft patch KB925336 is not installed, the pop-up in Figure 1 is received. Click on "OK", exit the installation, obtain and install the required patch, re-start your system, and perform the steps in this solution again from the beginning.
