Issue/Introduction

Description:

This 08:41 minute video demonstrates how to evaluate benefits of using zIIP with and without a physical zIIP engine. Evaluating benefits requires neither zIIP processors nor even hardware that is capable of supporting zIIP processors. Significant portions of CA IDMS system code is zIIP eligible. zIIP is easy to implement and requires no changes to applications or databases. Benefits not only CA IDMS systems, but also other z/OS workloads by freeing up cycles on the cp. It is also included at no cost with CA IDMS r17 for z/OS.

Solution:

The procedure is to first run the system with ZIIP=N using your preferred performance test stream. Record the results of a DCMT DIS SUBTASK EFFECTIVENESS. Then run the system with ZIIP=Y using the same preferred test stream and record the results of a DCMT DIS SUBTASK EFFECTIVENESS. Look at the "SRB" value under "Total SRB time" in the DCMT DIS SUBTASK EFFECTIVENESS from both.
