Issue/Introduction

SMF extract job finishes with SYSTEM COMPLETION CODE=237 REASON CODE=00000004 and
CAF3305E UNABLE TO CLOSE ALL FILES SUCCESSFULLY
CAF2902E RUN TERMINATED, HIGHEST CONDITION CODE WAS 12

Resolution

  1. Run TAPEINIT.
  2. If COPIES(2) option is specified, rerun the failing extract with the ALTERNATE parameter. This will result in the alternate tape being used instead of the primary file.
  3. The bad history file can be recovered (minus one or more blocks) by running an IEBGENER and copying it to a different file with LABEL=(nn,BLP) parameter coded in the input DD statement.
  4. If Step 3 was successful, the DELETEX function should be used to remove the bad history file from the SCDS. The ADDX function can then be used to add the copy back in.
