Issue/Introduction

Description:

The Content Update Service is used by other CA products for content download: currently Unicenter Patch Management and Unicenter Asset Management. In the event that Unicenter Patch Management or Unicenter Asset Management (both r11.x) are to be installed into the same MDB after CA Software Compliance Manager, they need to be configured to use the Content Import Client.

Solution:

The Content Update Service is used by other CA products for content download: currently Unicenter Patch Management and Unicenter Asset Management. In the event that Unicenter Patch Management or Unicenter Asset Management (both r11.x) are to be installed into the same MDB after CA Software Compliance Manager, they need to be configured to use the Content Import Client.

If this is the case, Unicenter Patch Management and Unicenter Asset Management should have their content download mechanisms disabled or set to offline.

For Unicenter Patch Management, in the Administration tab, there is a page called "Offline Processing" where the "UPM Server does not have access to the Internet" option should be selected. (This instruction is for UPM 11.2 and may differ slightly for earlier versions; consult UPM documentation for more details.)

For DSM, in DSM Explorer, in Control Panel, Engines, All Engines, System Engine, unlink the Default Software Contents Download Job by selecting the red 'x'. (This instruction is for DSM 11.2 and may differ slightly for earlier versions; consult DSM documentation for more details.)

After disabling their content download systems, each product needs to be registered with the Content Import Client, so that additional content will be downloaded for these products, in addition to CA Software Compliance.

The following checklist can be used.

If these products are installed before CA Software Compliance Manager.

  1. The existing download services of those products are automatically turned off by the CA Software Compliance Manager installer.

  2. The URL for UPM will automatically be changed to a non-functioning URL so that Microsoft updates will continue to be downloaded while content will not.

  3. These products will automatically be registered with the CIC.

If these products were installed after CA Software Compliance Manager.

  1. They need to be configured to use the Content Import Client

  2. This means the content download needs to be disabled or set to offline for these products

    1. Unicenter Patch Management 11.2

      1. Modify the UPM content update address to a non- functioning URL like http://replaced_by_cic/cms.

    2. DSM 11.2

      1. DSM Explorer > Control Panel > Engines > All Engines > System Engine

      2. Unlink the Default Software Contents Download Job by selecting the red 'x'.

  3. Next each product needs to be registered with the Content Import Client

    1. Util.bat -R UPM/DSM/SWCM AppID/# License Key

      1. Util.bat is found in C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC
