DSERIES- SERVER CA Workload Automation DE - Scheduler (dSeries)

Issue/Introduction

CA Workload Automation Desktop Client (DC) keeps disconnecting and reconnecting to the DE Server.

Desktop client displays the message: "The connection to the <SERVER ID> server has been lost."

Environment

Component: CA Workload Automation DE

Resolution

The Desktop Client settings can be adjusted to a poor network conditions.

Steps:

  1. Login to the Desktop Client and connect to the DE server

  2. Navigate to 'Admin -> Topology -> Server Shared parameter -> Global Client heartbeat interval in minutes'

  3. Change the default value 60 to 120

  4. Click on Save (floppy disk icon)

Please note that changing the 'Global Client heartbeat intervaul in minutes' parameter will not completely resolve the "The connection to the <SERVER ID> server has been lost." messages from occurring. It will delay the frequency that the Desktop Client will send its heartbeat message to the DSeries Server. The reason for this message is because the Desktop Client is sending a ping/heartbeat message to the DSeries server (according to the minutes interval mentioned above). The Desktop Client will wait 5 minutes for a response from the DSeries Server. This is caused by there not being a response after 5 minutes. This grace period of 5 minutes is extremely generous.

Normally, the client connection is closed (with a message it lost connection) and then it reconnects. If this become too disruptive then it's recommended to consult with the network team to determine why the Desktop Client isn't receiving a response to its ping/heartbeat message sent to the DSeries Server.
