Issue/Introduction

Description:

In the Staff Member Properties page.
If the last segment for the Soft Allocation is the same % as the Default Allocation % for the resource, and that segment does not cover the whole of the project schedule, the Booking Status can go from Hard to Mixed by just clicking on Save, without performing any changes to the page.

The questionable behavior is not that Hard Allocation segments with identical % are collapsed together; the questionable behavior is that, as a consequence, the Booking Status should changed to Mixed just because now the Hard and Soft Allocations are "equivalent" but not "identical".

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Login to Clarity as a Project and Resource Manager

  2. Main Application > Projects > Create a project that spans 1 year

  3. Allocate a labor Resource to this project (Resource2)

  4. Click 'properties' icon to open the Staff Member Properties 'Resource2'
Change the Default % Allocation to 0% [which is rather common in real projects]

    Click 'Save' button

Create one allocation segment for the first month of the project, to 100%

    Click 'Save' button
Create a second allocation segment for the second month of the project, to the same % as the Default % Allocation [0% in this example]

    Click 'Save' button

Change the Booking Status = Hard

    Click 'Save' button

    Figure 1

The Hard Allocation will now display 3 segments: the first 2 segments mirror the Soft Allocation segments entered manually, plus a 3rd Hard Allocation segment that covers the period from the 3rd month to the end of the project. Note that the last 2 segments have the same percentage.

  5. Without performing any further changes, click on Save.

Expected Result: No change to the Allocation segments, and Booking Status to remain Hard.
Actual Result: The last 2 segments in the Hard Allocation are merged [which may be acceptable] and the Booking Status is changed to Mixed [not acceptable]

Solution:

WORKAROUND:

Besides the obvious workaround of not specifying the last two segments in the Soft Allocation with the same percentage value, another workaround is to set the Start Date and Finish Date in the Staff Member Properties to explicitly cover the same period as the specified Soft Allocation segments [for the example given above, Finish Date should be set to the end of the second month].

STATUS/RESOLUTION:

This issue has been documented as CLRT-58195 and is assigned to development for review. If you are experiencing this problem and the workaround above does not significantly help, please contact CA Technical Support.
