How to install CA API Gateway & CA Live API Creator License

Issue/Introduction

The below steps enable you to quickly install CA API Gateway and CA Live API Creator licenses

Resolution

Import the CA API Gateway License

*Note:

• Gateways license file is installed using Layer 7 Policy Manager GUI.
• The file received from our CA Customer Care License team has the extension of XML. To access the acutal license file, rename the file to license.ZIP, then open the zip archive and extract the license XML file.

1. Download and extract license file
   • After downloading the license file license*.xml. 
   • Navigate to the folder that contains license*.xml.
   • Rename license*.xml to license*.zip, open the zip archive then copy and paste the license.xml file to another folder.
   • If the above steps are not done, an error will be generated when installing the license file
     Unable to read license file: "The specified license file is not well-formatted XML: Content is not allowed in prolog."

2. To install a Primary license for the first time:
   • The Gateway License warning dialog appears automatically when no license is present.
   • Click [Install License] in the Manage Gateway Licenses dialog. The file selection dialog appears.
   • Navigate to the folder that has extracted license.xml file, then click [Open].
   • Click [I Agree] to accept the license agreement.
3. Update expired license:
   • From the Main Menu, select [Help] > Manage Gateway Licenses. The Manage Gateway License dialog appears
   • Select the expired license from the list of installed licenses.
   • Click [Remove License].
   • Click [Yes] in the Gateway License warning dialog to view the license manager.
   • Click [Install License] in the Manage Gateway Licenses dialog. The file selection dialog appears.
   • Navigate to the folder that has extracted license.xml file, then click [Open].
   • Click [I Agree] to accept the license agreement.
   • When a license is about to expire, you only need to install the newer version.

Import the CA Live API Creator Server License

1. Download and extract the license.json file
   • After downloading the license file license*.xml. 
   • Navigate to the folder that contains license*.xml.
   • Rename license*.xml to license*.zip, open the zip file and copy then paste the actual license.json file to another folder.
2. Install the license.json file
   • Log on to API Creator as the admin or as a user with 'sa' credentials.
   • Click the License tab.
   • Click Upload License.
   • A file selection dialog opens.
   • Locate and select the extracted license.json file then click OK.
