Issue/Introduction

Description:

What is Amswsigscan.exe and how much memory does it consume during the startup of Amagent on Windows?

Solution:

The file "amswsigscan.exe" is used for software scanning and it starts with Amagent during system startup.

The memory consumption of amswsigscan.exe is related to the files/directories on the system.

  • On R11 the startup memory consumption is around 100 MB.

  • On R12.5 GA, the startup memory consumption is around 150 MB.

  • If you want to reduce the memory consumption on machines with limited memory open a support issue requesting testfix T5I1266 (for version 12.5 GA). This fix brings down the memory usage from 150 MB to around 20-25 MB. By default, the software signature XML file is fully loaded into the memory and processed. This fix reduces the memory by processing the xml file on chunk by chunk basis instead of loading the entire XML file.
