Issue/Introduction

This article covers the steps taken to create a new, custom field that will be visible in just a project, not the whole workspace.

Resolution

Administrator level permissions are required to create custom fields.

  1. Click on Setup.
  2. Go to Workspaces & Projects
  3. Select the workspace.
  4. Click on Projects link on the left side, then select the intended project.
  5. Go to Fields link on the left.
  6. Select your Work Item Type.
  7. Create a new custom field.
  8. After the Field is saved it appears on the list of visible fields.
  9. Hard refresh your browser tab to pick up the change.
  10. Click on Workspace link to see if it appears on the workspace level.
  11. The field is not visible on the Workspace level.
  12. Create a story or other work item type in the project, the field is available.

 

NOTE: If you want to use the custom field for mapping of custom states to ex. schedule state on a Kanban app, the field type must be a 'Drop Down'.  Multivalue fields will not work for Kanban board mapping.
