The SARPAC Process Effect on OM View Index Space

Issue/Introduction

Several large reports were recently expired from the View database, most of which were archived to tape. Will running SARPAC to consolidate the reports on tape release some of the database index space being used.

 

Environment

• View®
• OM View for z
• Output Management View® for z/OS 

Resolution

Deleting (expiring) reports from the database may or may not expire tapes, depending on if there are other active reports still on those tapes. 

The SARPAC process will move active reports from current tapes to new tapes. At the next View backup following the SARPAC, the older tapes will be expired. 

View index space is released when a report or tape is expired, so running SARPAC would not (in and of itself) have much of an effect on index space.
