Issue/Introduction

It may be necessary to determine if IDMS DC is being used.

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Resolution

To determine if you are using DC access, begin with DCMT D LINE to determine if you have a VTAM Line defined. If you do, it will show as type VTAM 3270; if it is enabled the status will say InSrv.

For example:

DCMT D LINE
*** Display Lines (ALL) Request ***
Driver Type and/or APPL/Table Number of VTAM
Line-ID Status Module Access Method DD/Other PTerms Resource
------- ------ ------ ------------- ---------- --------- --------
CONSOLE InSrv RHDCD04W WTO CONSOLE 1
UCFLINE InSrv RHDCD0ZU UCF RHDCFSTB 5
VTAM01 InSrv RHDCD05V VTAM 3270 PHILESP 128

….

In the above example, the CV Line VTAM01 is the main method of connecting to the CV.

To use the VTAM LINE it must be defined in the Sysgen and it must have multiple associated LTERM/PTERM definitions. For example, DCMT D LINE VTAM01 in this example shows many LTERM/PTERMs.  You can see from the display below that 3 of them have been used in this CV cycle because the Term-ID field contains a value:

D LINE VTAM01
*** Physical Line Display ***
PLine-ID VTAM01
Status InSrv
Module 5V
Appl-ID PHILESP
LTerm-ID PTerm-ID Type/M Status Term-ID FES-ID UCF-Stat UCF-Mode
LTVTM001 PTVTM001 3279 4 InSrv A01TE008
LTVTM002 PTVTM002 3279 4 InSrv A01TE013
LTVTM003 PTVTM003 3279 2 Discon A55TU008
LTVTM004 PTVTM004 3277 2 Discon
…

If you find that you do have a VTAM Line defined with LTERM/PTERMs and the Appl-ID is a valid one defined in VTAM, then even if your display shows none of the Lterm/Pterms have been used, it is still possible that someone may be connecting via this Line at some point in time.

If your site has PERFMON, the Interval Monitor report PMIRPT16 reports on all LINEs in your system and shows the number of terminal reads/Writes done for Pterms in the Line.

Also Application Monitor report PMARPT14 is the Pterm Summary report which shows all tasks executed by any Pterms in the system. From the Pterm names you should be able to see if ANY VTAM LINE Pterms have been used at all or if you see only UCF LINE Pterms.
