What are the new features and enhancements of Endevor r14.0?
When upgrading CA Endevor, customers can jump one or more versions and go directly to the last version of Endevor.
If upgrading from version older, it is recommended to review the Release Notes for all intermediate versions.
This document gives the list of the New Features and Enhancements for r14.0 and provide the release information guide for further explanations.
Every Releases from Endevor 14.0
Component: ENDBAS, SCMMNI
CA Endevor SCM r14.0 introduces enhancements, as well as additional features. A brief description of each new feature and enhancement appears next. Further details are provided in the individual guides that make up the documentation set.
The complete Release Notes guide is attached to the article.
The following major enhancements are included in R14:
Simplified Installation Using CA Mainframe Software Manager
You have the option to install CA Endevor SCM using CA Mainframe Software Manager, which automates the installation process.
Alternate ID Support for UNIX System Services (USS) Files
This enhancement enables CA Endevor SCM to extend alternate ID protection to base libraries, include libraries, and source output files that are under the control of CA Endevor SCM and are defined as USS directories. Very limited support is provided for UNIX files accessed in processors and user exits. To enable this feature, the following new option must be set in the Optional Features table: ENABLE_USS_ALTID_SECURITY. HFS and ZFS files are supported.
Autogen Generate Option
The Autogen action option, when specified on the Add, Update or Generate actions for an element, automatically generates the elements that use this component element. For example, specifying Autogen for an element of type COPYBOOK would automatically generate the COBOL PROGRAM elements that use the macro, which would in turn generate the appropriate LNK elements. Autogen is available in batch only for the Add, Update, and Generate actions and cannot be used in packages. During processing, duplicate Generate actions are eliminated, and the NoSource option is enabled for all the Generate actions built by Autogen. Autogen is available only if the option CA Endevor SCM Automated Configuration Manager is enabled at your site.
Promotion Package Stop-At-Stage
The Promotion Package Stop-at-Stage feature lets administrators define inventory lifecycle stages at which the automatic processing of promotion packages is suspended. This allows promotion packages to be shipped from a location other than the final location defined in the map. To enable this feature, the administrator sets the stop-at-stage parameters in the environment section of the C1DEFLTS table.
Validate Element Action
The Validate Element action performs element master, synchronization, and component validation checks against the element you specify. These inventory validation checks can be performed at any time, enabling developers to ensure the integrity of elements before including them in a package. This is a batch only action and is not supported in packages.
Virtual Inventory Configuration (Generate NoSource Option)
The Virtual Inventory Configuration feature enables unchanged source code to be compiled and linked at a CA Endevor SCM inventory location without the requirement that the source code be copied back to that inventory area. This feature is triggered by the NoSource option on the Generate action, provided the element does not exist at the target location. NoSource can be specified on foreground or batch Generate actions. For NoSource to work, you must use either one of the following in your processors: the CONWRITE program or the C1BASELIB symbolic, which references the base type libraries.
Important:
Beginning with CA Endevor SCM R14, the product data set names were changed to make CA Endevor SCM compatible with CA MSM.
Here are the tables showing the new file names introduced with R14 and those delivered prior to R14 (see the appendix Installation Data Set Names in the Installation Guide). This information is provided in case you are upgrading from CA Endevor SCM R12 or earlier.
