How to recover or retrieve a data set not found within the Files Data Set. Disk job is returning the following message:
ADSDM179*0086 NO DATA SET INDEX RECORD FOUND
Release: Diskā¢ Backup and Restore
Follow the below steps to recover or retrieve a data set not found within the Files Data Set:
1. Perform a Tape Analyze so that you can verify if the data sets actually still exists or have been written over. The Tape Analyze Utility which aids in determining the validity and contents of a tape. More information about the Tape Analyze Utility can be found in the Disk tech guide for Archive Tape Analysis Utility. Also refer the provided sample JCL that can be used to run the analyze to view the contents. If no data sets can be found in the Analyze job run, then the data has been written over or is no longer there.
2. If the data still exists on the tape, then perform a Selective Rebuild on the tape for the specific data set. A Selective Rebuild can be performed when it is necessary to recover only a small number of Data Set entries that have been deleted from the FILES data set and the Archive data set has not been deleted or written over.
Here are the REBUILD steps that you should do:
a. Allocate a small temporary Files Data Set
b. Perform a REBUILD on the volume pointing to the temporary Files Data Set allocated in step one.
c. RESTORE the data set(s) needed, again pointing to the temporary Files Data Set.
d. When steps above a, b, c are complete, delete the temporary Files Data Set.
Refer Disk tech doc about the for Archive Index Rebuild Utility. Refer REBUILD JCL, its syntax and parameters to run the job.
