Issue/Introduction

When allocating a OM View database extent, this message is received:

SARDBI01 Index file allocation failed for view_hlq - ERROR=0214 INFO=0000

 

Environment

• View®
• OM View for z
• Output Management View® for z/OS

Cause

The "ERROR=0214" is a MVS return code passed back to View, indicating that there is a problem with the dynamic allocation of a unit. 

Resolution

The causes for the error could be due to: 

•  The user does not have mount authority. 
•  An external security issue between the user and/or device. 
•  A catalog / access issue; or SMS/ACS rule problem. 
•  The requested unit is not available. 

In this particular instance, the user did not have permission to allocate the data set, due to storage restrictions placed on the volumes. 

With write permissions the allocation could be done without error.
