VCF License fails on the workload domain vCenter after the upgrade from 9.0.2 to 9.1.0.0 with error "vCenter has been removed, but still uses license capacity from the license server"

Issue/Introduction

Post upgrading vCenter to 9.1.0.0, 

• Navigating to VCF Operations UI > Manage > Licenses & Registrations displays the warning: "vCenter has been removed, but still uses license capacity from the license server"
• Selecting the license server triggers the error  " One or more license servers have assets that have been removed, but still utilize license capacity. You must reclaim used capacity manually."

 

From the VCFOPs logs we see the below entries :

Environment

VCF 9.1.0.0

Cause

The VCF license migration completed as expected during the upgrade sequence; however, a transient error caused the automated vCenter license update task to fail

Resolution

• Log in to the VCFOPs UI, navigate to the Manage menu, and click on License and Registration.
• Locate and click on the specific vCenter instance that is currently showing a failed state.
• Click the  Assign Primary License option to manual link the vCenter back to the Primary license server.
• Refresh the VCFOPs UI to reload the changes.
